Leadership

John Nicklin, Managing Member

John Nicklin is a pioneering entrepreneur who started his first business in 1985 at the age of 22. John’s first successful business combined onsite waste processing equipment, maintenance and disposal on a flat fee basis at some of the most prestigious healthcare systems within the United States.

This client-first, service-centered model changed the landscape of the waste management industry and garnered him a reputation of being both an advocate for the healthcare community and an expert in the field of environmental compliance.

Building on this early success, John then developed an onsite waste stream management program combining staffing, policies and procedures for the appropriate collection and handling of multiple waste streams. This business model delivered standards of best demonstrated practices and allowed healthcare and industrial customers alike to achieve aggressive waste reduction and sustainability goals as well as reducing financial, occupational and environmental exposure.

In 2005 this unique and valuable business model was acquired by Stericycle Inc, a publicly traded global company. As Director New Business Development for Stericycle from 2005-2010 John succeeded in rolling this program out nationally which then became known as Stericycle’s Integrated Waste Stream Solutions (IWSS) program.

As the founder and principal owner of WasteStrategies, John is continuing his entrepreneurial focus by leveraging processes and technology into products and services that provide customers with access to actionable compliance and quality data in real time.

John’s turn-key software and field support services are changing the way leading organizations deal with their business environment.

In addition to his leadership duties at WasteStrategies, John sits on the board of several organizations, possesses extensive public speaking experience and is a highly sought-after expert in the fields of Mobility, Environmental Health and Safety and Quality Management. John resides in Annapolis MD with his wife Michelle and three girls.

Among the companies Tony co-founded was California Medical Disposal (Cal Med). In this heavily regulated industry Tony and his team built the company to be the second largest in the state. Cal Med serviced some of the nation’s premier healthcare institutions including UCSF, Sutter Health, UCLA Medical Center, and the Stanford Medical Center. After the company was successfully sold to Stericycle (NASD: SRCL), Tony led the national expansion of Stericycle’s pharmaceutical waste collection and disposal service. Today the Rx Waste Disposal program is the nation’s largest, and diverts millions of pounds of pharmaceuticals from our nation’s watershed and landfills.

Tony started his career with Accenture in the San Francisco office prior to his entrepreneurial ventures and was the general manager of the aviation business for IHS (NYSE: IHS), an electronic publishing company. He also led a Revenue Management team for Caribbean markets at American Airlines.
